Duane Adams

Born and raised in the Upper Midwest. My wife and I live in Griswold, Iowa where I successfully completed my teaching career. Our two children live in the Omaha area.
Received a Master of Arts degree in painting and drawing from Minnesota State University at Mankato, Minnesota. Taught public schools in Wisconsin and Iowa for 38 years and was an adjunct instructor for Iowa Western Community College for about 25 years. Recently retired and devote all my time to the creation of art.
My passion is for painting. My subject matter changes constantly as I feel art must always change. My work with clay primarily focuses on pottery as an art piece as opposed to a functional form. But lately as I discovered agateware, I am doing more functional ceramics
My paintings and drawings are image based. I do not consider my work to be photo-realism or realism. Certainly the images have naturalism but that is not my concern when creating them. I am interested in the pose, the gesture, the lighting and/or the overall mood of the subject. I feel like I am painting and drawing the light and the play of shadows. I use either acrylics or oils because I enjoy each for their unique qualities.
